There are several similarities between triglycerides and cholesterol levels. First of all they are both "lipids" and none of them can be dissolved in the blood. That means that both need to be carried through the blood by the protein that is called lipoprotein. Both are managed by the liver. The good thing is that both can be controlled with a healthy diet and healthy style of living. However, their overall presence and absence can easily mean the difference between living and dying. Cholesterol and triglycerides levels need to be taken very serious and they can be considered as some sort of indicators of present and future disease.

On the other hand there are much bigger differences than similarities. Cholesterol is not a fat even though that is classified as one. It is more of a fat - like substance that is made of two other substances. LDL and HDL are the two components that form cholesterol. The main goal of the cholesterol is to produce steroid hormones, such as estrogen for women and testosterone when it comes to men. Digesting fat and processing vitamin D are two other things that cholesterol does. Triglycerides on the other hand are there to provide the body with the necessary fatty acids. The fatty acids are responsible for producing and storing energy. Protecting the organs from internal injuries and insulating the human body is something that this fatty acid does.

Sometimes it might happen to have high cholesterol and on the other hand to have normal triglyceride levels. Sometimes it might be the opposite situation or you can have both of them to be out of the normal levels. Regardless the circumstances that needs to be taken very seriously and to consult a doctor in order to start treating that condition. In meantime the best way to avoid blood fats is if you eat more foods such as: vegetables, fruits, fish, whole grain, flaxseed and oats. On the other hand foods such as refined carbs, animal products and concentrated sweets can increase your blood fats. The thing is that the better you will feed yourself the healthier you will be.
