UNDERSTANDING ADHD

More and more kids are being diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD. ADHD can also impact adults. It is often diagnosed in young children and stays with them into adulthood, however, as the years progress symptoms might decrease and there are many treatment options available for coping with this disorder. There are ADHD symptoms to look for if you think you may have, or know someone who has ADHD. The symptoms are separated in three different categories and you if you are to be diagnosed with ADHD, you will have to have at least three of these symptoms. A strong diagnosis will indicate symptoms from each category.

The categories of ADHD symptoms are inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness. The first category consists of symptoms such as inability to stay focused, lack of attention to details, trouble keeping things organized, forgetfulness, and lack of ability to keep up with items. The second category, hyperactivity, consists of symptoms like fidgeting, constantly moving about, speaking rapidly and loudly, and sporadic thought patterns. The final category features symptoms that include an inability to control ones emotions, constant interrupting, and being overly impatient.

Kids who suffer from ADHD often have trouble reading and staying on task at school. They may have difficulty following the rules and staying in their seats. They seem to be overly emotional and effortlessly irritated by small things. Parents often find that the child with ADHD is more difficult to handle than other children. Numerous parents also find that it seems the child is not following directions or listening. For example, a parent may tell the child to get the plates out for dinner and poor everyone's drink and then discover that the child has only gotten the plates and forgot about the drinks. This type of factor will happen often. Parents might not notice the exact same ADHD symptoms that are being noticed by the child's teacher because schools are generally a lot more structured and demanding than the home environment and the school setting may aggravate the child's ADHD.

ADHD symptoms differ from person to person. Not every ADHD patient will suffer in the exact same way as other ADHD patients. This disorder is frequently an area of concern for parents as well because it takes a knowledge of symptoms to understand and manage the child's behavior. School work and homework are areas of struggle as well. There are numerous treatments for this disorder, but there is no remedy. However, symptoms can be significantly decreased by either medication or therapy, or both. As the patient and family learn more about ADHD, the symptoms can be managed and, for kids, by the time they reach adulthood they might rarely show any signs of their ADHD. The key to treatment is understanding.

What are the main ADHD symptoms and searching for it's solution? Let's read here more about ADHD symptoms.
